Dónal has kindly offered to run a virtual retreat for the Southern Africa Centres this November. The retreat will be held over Zoom.
Please watch this post for updates.
Dates: Friday 6 – Saturday 14 November, 2020
Retreat Theme: Bodhicitta. An Affirming Flame
‘Defenceless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them,
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.’
(from September 1 1939 by W.H.Auden)
Cost: Some Centre members have expressed a wish to make an offering to support the Centre due to the lack of inflows to cover necessary operational costs over the past 6 months of closure. A suggested offering of USD60 or whatever you are able to contribute will be gratefully appreciated. Please do not let your inability to pay stop you attending. Registration is necessary – please see below.
Paid-up members of the Centre are offered a 33% discount on registration, so USD 40
Registration: To register for the online retreat, please email Pam Sheehan on zimsheehans [at] gmail.com and indicate how you plan to participate. For planning purposes please register by 28 October 2020.
Participation: We are offering two ways to participate in the retreat –
Option 1: Self-retreat at home, joining the daily sessions via ZOOM
Option 2: A limited number of people may join at the centre, 7a Ernie’s Lane, Monavale, daily from 9am – 11am and again from 3.45pm till 6pm so please do register early. If you have any queries regarding this option, and if you are able to assist on the technical side, please contact Viv Kernohan on vkernohan [at] gmail.com
Note – the centre will be open only to retreatants attending the retreat.
Dhana: We are all encouraged to offer dhana to Donal for this retreat, in response to him giving generously of his time for us. Further information will be sent to you upon registration.
Participants are required to attend the full retreat, and be present at all sessions, unless there is an urgent reason not to attend.
Retreatants should be on time for all sessions. We suggest that you be ready some ten minutes before the start, as once the sessions have started, it is preferable to not interrupt by coming in late.
Although we will all be attending remotely, we will need to keep in mind that we are essentially on a retreat, and should thus conduct ourselves accordingly (even if we are attending from our homes).
