Chöje Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoché was born in East Tibet, and escaped to India together with Akong Rinpoche and Chogyam Trungpa in 1959. In 1969 he joined Akong Tulku Rinpoche and Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in Scotland and in 1980 took full ordination as a Gelong monk from His Holiness Karmapa. He then entered a strict, long-term solitary retreat under the guidance of the Abbot of Karma Triyana, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche. He has completed a number of 49-day Bardo retreats of total solitude and darkness, an accomplishment that has made him one of the foremost meditation Masters alive today.

In 1991, Lama Yeshe Rinpoché became the Abbot of Samye Ling and took responsibility for the Holy Isle Project. Following the tragic death of Chöje Akong Tulku Rinpoché in 2013, he also assumed overall responsibility for ROKPA International and The Tara Trust, as well as for all Kagyu Samye Dzong Centres worldwide.

Lama Yeshe Rinpoché gives teachings all around the world, participating in numerous interfaith events, where his charismatic presence and good humour enable him to connect with people from all walks of life. More about Lama Yeshe Rinpoché here.

Lama Katen is deputy Abbot of Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery and a nephew of Chöje Akong Tulku Rinpoche. He received full ordination from Thrangu Rinpoche and studied for many years at Thrangu Monastery in Nepal. He spent five years at Thrangu Monastic College and then undertook the traditional three-year, three-month retreat, followed by a six-month Kalachakra dark retreat. His root Guru, Drupon Rinpoche, has requested him to teach. Lama Katen’s full biography may be found here.

Gelongma Lhamo is a fully ordained Buddhist nun who completed a four-year cloistered retreat in 1993 and has lived at Samye Ling ever since. She is an experienced teacher of meditation and Dharma courses and as Secretary to the Abbot at Samye Ling she has learnt how to integrate the peace and stability of meditation into her busy working life.
