SUMMARY:Introduction to Qigong
DESCRIPTION:with Wendy Newstadt \nWe are exploring the possibility of offering Qigong classes and invite you to an introductory session with Wendy Newstadt on Saturday\, 7 February\, from 10:00 to 11:00. This session will provide an overview of the practice and help gauge interest in future classes. \nQigong is a holistic healing practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It combines gentle movements\, postures\, breathing techniques\, and meditation to cultivate the flow of qi—the vital life energy often understood as breath or spirit. By balancing and strengthening qi\, Qigong supports overall health and well-being. \nRegular practice can help reduce stress\, build stamina\, improve circulation\, and enhance immune function. Qigong may be practised individually or in groups and is suitable for all levels of experience. \nCome along and bring a friend! \nFacilitator\nWendy Newstadt is a Qigong teacher and Shiatsu therapist. She studied Qigong with Grandmaster Nan Lu in New York while completing her Shiatsu training at the Ohashi Institute of Shiatsu\, graduating in 1997. Wendy has been practising and teaching Shiatsu ever since and is currently teaching Qigong in Johannesburg. She is also a trained dance teacher and incorporates elements of dance into her Qigong classes. \nCost\nThere is no charge for this class. Donations are welcome—there is a dana box at the back of the Temple and another at reception. \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Celebrating Losar with Lama Yeshe Rinpoche
DESCRIPTION:Losar\, meaning “New Year\,” is an important festival in Tibetan Buddhism\, marking a time of renewal\, reflection\, and community. Losar itself falls this year on Wednesday\, 18 February\, the day after the New Moon\, and marks the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse—a year traditionally associated with energy\, movement\, and transformation. \nPlease join Lama Yeshe Rinpoche at KSD Johannesburg Temple for a special Q&A session on Sunday 22 February\, offering a valuable opportunity to receive direct guidance from Rinpoche. \nIf you would like to submit a question in advance\, please send it to +27 73 352 3620 by 19 February\, or you are welcome to ask your question in person on the day. The Q&A session will also be accessible via Zoom (details below). \nProgramme10:00 – 11:00 Q&A with Lama Yeshe Rinpoche11:00         Tea (please bring treats to share) \nAlongside the Losar celebrations\, we are pleased to present an Art Exhibition by Toni Pörtner. \n \nToni has worked at Samye Ling since 2001 as a joiner and carpenter and is a long-time student of Lama Yeshe Rinpoche. He is currently the caretaker at the men’s retreat on the Isle of Arran and is gradually moving into retirement. Over the past two years\, Toni has been creating and singing original Dharma songs. This exhibition features illustrations inspired by and created for these self-composed songs. Toni will be happy to discuss his work! \nThe practice of generosity (dāna) is a cherished part of Buddhist life\, especially during the New Year period. Many people choose this time to make simple offerings as an expression of gratitude and support for the teachings. Offerings of flowers\, incense\, or food are welcome\, with food offerings to be shared at tea after the session. \nZoom Details:\nIf you are in Johannesburg\, please do join us in person. Otherwise you can join on Zoom. Please note: There are only 100 spots on Zoom\, so please log in by 9:45. \nTopic: Q&A with Lama Yeshe Rinpoche\nTime: Feb 22\, 2026\, 10:00 AM Johannesburg\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/2976711377?pwd=Hyh8DVSik2LNwPM0YENl1sEqi8lyPs.1&omn=88956119697\n\nMeeting ID: 297 671 1377\nPasscode: 543104
