SUMMARY:Finding Calm and Kindness
DESCRIPTION:A Day Retreat of Meditation with Lama Rinchen Palmo \nSunday\, 20 September | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm \nIn the midst of our busy and often demanding lives\, it is easy to become overwhelmed\, distracted and disconnected from ourselves and others. This day of meditation offers an opportunity to slow down\, cultivate inner peace\, and reconnect with the qualities of calmness and compassion that lie within us all. \nDuring this retreat day\, Lama Rinchen Palmo will introduce two of Buddhism’s most practical and transformative meditation practices. \nCalm Abiding (Shamatha) Meditation helps settle the mind\, developing greater clarity\, stability and inner peace. As the mind becomes calmer\, we are better able to respond to life’s challenges with wisdom rather than reactivity. \nLoving-kindness (Metta) Meditation gently opens the heart\, cultivating kindness towards ourselves\, our loved ones\, those we find difficult\, and ultimately all beings. This simple yet profound practice helps develop compassion\, emotional resilience and a deeper sense of connection with others. \nThroughout the day retreat\, Lama Rinchen Palmo will provide clear instruction\, guided meditation sessions\, and opportunities to ask questions\, making the practices accessible whether you are completely new to meditation or have many years of experience. \nThere is no charge for this day. In keeping with the Buddhist tradition\, dana (offerings) for the teacher are warmly welcomed\, and donations towards Lama Rinchen Palmo’s travel expenses would be greatly appreciated. \nPlease bring a plate of vegetarian food to share for our community lunch. \nAll are warmly welcome. Whether you are taking your very first steps in meditation or wishing to deepen an existing practice\, this day offers a wonderful opportunity to cultivate a calmer mind and a kinder heart. \n\nOf French descent\, Lama Rinchen Palmo is a highly experienced meditation teacher with excellent English\, who has spent more than twelve years in retreat and previously assisted in supervising the long retreats on Holy Isle. She specialises in the Vajrayana practices of Tibetan Buddhism and is one of three Western women to have been appointed as a lama within the Samye Ling mandala. \nRenowned for her compassionate\, practical and down-to-earth teaching style\, she currently resides in Belgium\, where she divides her time between Kagyu Samye Dzong Brussels and the Samye Meditation Gardens\, a retreat centre near the French border dedicated to nurturing both inner and outer ecology.
