SUMMARY:Refuge and Precepts with Lama Yeshe Rinpoche
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted that Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche will offer Refuge and Lay Precepts before returning to Scotland. \nThis is a precious opportunity for anyone who wishes to take refuge for the first time\, renew or deepen their commitment to the path\, or take or re-take the lay precepts. This ceremony is open to all — whether you feel newly inspired or simply wish to reconnect with your intention. \nIf you would like to take refuge\, please email johannesburg@kagyu.org.za so that a refuge card can be prepared for you. \nWhat is Refuge?\nA refuge ceremony is a formal and heartfelt step on the Buddhist path. In taking refuge\, one places one’s trust in the Buddha (the awakened teacher)\, the Dharma (the teachings)\, and the Sangha (realised beings). Through this ceremony\, you consciously align yourself with the path to awakening and compassion. \nThe Lay Precepts\nLay precepts are simple yet profound ethical commitments that support a mindful and compassionate life. Most commonly\, these are the Five Precepts: \n\nTo refrain from taking life\nTo refrain from taking what is not given\nTo refrain from harmful sexual conduct\nTo refrain from false or hurtful speech\nTo refrain from intoxicants that cloud the mind\n\nYou may take as many precepts as you feel ready for\, and for whatever duration you wish — for a day\, a specific period\, or as a lifelong commitment. \nOfferings\nIt is customary on joyful occasions such as this to make an offering. You may wish to offer a khatag (white scarf\, available in our shop for R20)\, flowers\, a plate of food\, or dana according to your means and intention. \nAfter the ceremony\, we will gather for tea\, followed by Chenrezig Prayers for Peace. \nAll are warmly welcome.
