{"id":4431,"date":"2016-07-17T17:09:22","date_gmt":"2016-07-17T15:09:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kagyu.org.za\/johannesburg\/?page_id=4431"},"modified":"2016-08-25T21:25:54","modified_gmt":"2016-08-25T19:25:54","slug":"visit-by-the-ven-5th-minyak-rinpoche","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kagyu.org.za\/johannesburg\/courses\/archives\/visit-by-the-ven-5th-minyak-rinpoche\/","title":{"rendered":"Visit by the Ven 5th Minyak Rinpoche"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are delighted that the Ven 5th Minyak Rinpoche, Tulku Ogyen Nyima, will be visiting southern Africa in August 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kagyu.org.za\/johannesburg\/files\/2016\/07\/TulkuOgyen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4432 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/kagyu.org.za\/johannesburg\/files\/2016\/07\/TulkuOgyen-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"TulkuOgyen\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rinpoche is a scholar and is married to Akong Tulku Rinpoche&#8217;s niece, Drolkar Lhamo, and they have two children. He is currently one of the teachers in the Samye Ling mandala and as a master of both the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, he is available to bestow initiations and give teachings at Samye Ling and its branches and associated centres. The last empowerments that we received in Johannesburg were with Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche in 2010, and we don&#8217;t know when next we will be able to obtain such a blessing again the future.<\/p>\n<p>It is\u00a0beneficial to do the empowerments for future practices\u00a0, or you can take them as a blessing.<\/p>\n<p>To take any empowerments for practice purposes, you need to have taken Refuge first.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"color: #339966\"><strong><em>REFUGE:\u00a0<u> <\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>to take refuge is to make a formal commitment to accept the precepts and the protection of the 3 Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha) as the way for developing the aspiration for enlightenment<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>For an explanation of Refuge from Choje\u00a0Akong Tulku Rinpoche, please follow this <span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600\" href=\"http:\/\/www.samyeling.org\/buddhism-and-meditation\/teaching-archive-2\/choje-akong-tulku-rinpoche\/the-meaning-of-taking-refuge\/\" target=\"_blank\">link<\/a>.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>For an explanation of the actual ceremony, please watch this <span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BxNoAG2nmZk\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a><\/span> by Ken Holmes.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966\"><strong><em>EMPOWERMENT: <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>used in\u00a0Vajrayana Buddhism to awaken our\u00a0innate potential for Buddhahood and to create a strong connection between the recipient and the teacher, as well as the Buddha-figure involved.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Participation in an Empowerment with a fully qualified teacher bestows permission to engage in\u00a0specific practices.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><i>You need to have taken Refuge to take the empowerments<\/i><em>, <\/em><em>if not, the empowerments act as a blessing only.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #339966\"><em><strong>&#8220;Within the Vajrayana teachings the giving of empowerments is a particularly special thing. The empowerment is like a seed planted on the path. This seed bears fruit and that&#8217;s the result of our practice.
