Alan Muller – September 2016

Alan Muller is one of our hidden South African Buddhist treasures. He took vows for some time as a Buddhist Monk, and did a year’s retreat at Samye Ling in Scotland. He now conducts retreats at the Tara Rokpa Retreat Centre in the Groot Marico. He has much experience and wisdom to share in his quiet, humble and compassionate manner.

Ngöndro Teaching Day

10:30 – 1:00  Alan Muller will give an overview of the various Ngöndro practices.
2:00 – 4:00  Opportunity will be given to do Ngöndro practice.

Teachings on the Green Tara Practice

SUN 11 September              10.30 to 4pm

SAT 17 September            10.30 to 4pm

Tara is the female Bodhisattva of Compassion, and her main activity is to offer protection from fear, danger and suffering,

and to swiftly remove obstacles and difficulties.  These include both physical dangers and the afflicting emotions in our mind.

Alan will play Lama Tsondru’s teachings on Tara.

He will also:

  • go through the different sections in the text
  • the visualisations
  • the symbols and what they represent
  • the 21 Praises and the mantra recitation.
  • There will be time to practice the puja.

Teaching on Chenrezik Practice

Practice for Universal Compassion and Purification

SUN 18 September         10.30 am -4 pm

This simple yet profound practice is a “full practice” in itself, and contains the OM MANI PEME HUNG mantra, one of the best known mantras.

You can do the Chenrezi puja even if you have not taken refuge.

The teachings will be aimed at both beginners and more experienced practitioners.

Alan will :

  • Give a simple explanation on how to begin practicing the Chenrezig puja.
  • Explain the meaning of the symbolism
  • Explore what is cultivated when you do this practice
  • Spend time practicing the visualizations
  • Do some guided Chenrezig practice
